What is the definition of crazy?
Webster defines it as:
a : mad, insane <yelling like a crazy man>
b (1) : impractical <a crazy plan> (2) : erratic <crazy drivers>
c : being out of the ordinary : unusual <a taste for crazy hats>
OR, is crazy running over 11 miles while you traverse over, through or under 25 plus obstacles (such as giant ice water pits, mud pits, climbing over 12 foot high walls, crawling through pipes with muddy ice water in them, climbing over an enormous pile of hay bales, cargo net bridges, monkey bars that may be greased, jump off a 15 ft high platform into water then swim 50 feet to get out…..just a few examples).
This is the TOUGH MUDDER!!
“Tough Mudder events are hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. With the most innovative courses, half a million inspiring participants, and more than $3 million raised for the Wounded Warrior Project, Tough Mudder is the premier adventure challenge series in the world.”
Maybe THAT is what crazy is.
Whatever the definition is, I am going to run this race three days after my 40th birthday this year.
To train for an event like this takes a serious plan, determination, commitment, guts, heart and maybe to be a little crazy too. The workout suggestions on their website are difficult, but I am no stranger to exercise or hard work and have plenty of stubbornness in me to never give up. Not only do you need to be in great shape physically/mentally to conquer the obstacles, but the ability to run over 11 miles while you conquer them is a must. Regardless of the difficulty of the race or the countless hours of training this stacks up to be a really good time.
The Tough Mudder event is also a proud sponsor of the Wounded Warrior Project. As stated earlier participants have raised over $3 million dollars for this organization. I do not usually ask people to buy or pledge or donate to things I am involved with because we are all asked to give to different charities often, but I am asking this time. The WWP provides wonderful services to the wounded men and women in uniform and assists them in getting their life back in order. If I raise more than $150 I get a $25 refund from my entry fee….which I will donate to the WWP as well. There is no reason for me to benefit from the generosity of others, instead I will stand along side those that help. Please check out their web site and if you want to donate click the link below(it is linked to my registration in order to track how much I have a raised). I thank you for your generosity.
Along my training journey I will post updates of how I am doing or what I have been up to. The one thing that I will not stop doing while I train is biking to work each day ( I love it too much). Well I guess that is not true I will be running the nine miles to work on Fridays to keep up with the running aspect.
